FOR THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM IN
ADHERENCE TO CANON LAW: |

|
PREPARATION FOR THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Congratulations –
God has blessed you with an image of Himself. He will also give you the
graces necessary to raise your child to grow in Wisdom, Age and Grace.
Since you are the primary teachers for your child we realize that you
have a great responsibility, and your parish is here to help you
throughout the years ahead.
We look forward with you to the reception of the
Sacrament of Baptism for your child. It is the beginning of your
child’s faith journey, which will be strengthen through Catholic
Education and your parental guidance in teaching the prayers, setting
the example of weekly Mass attendance, and instilling a love for Christ
and His Church.
Here are the requirements for the Baptism to take
place at Our Mother of Good Counsel:
- Child’s birth
certificate; if the child is 7 years of age or older, special
preparation is required.
- Parents registered
in the parish for at least 3 months, or (after an interview with a
priest from this parish) a letter of permission from your local
parish.
- Godparents need to
be practicing Catholics, verified either on our form or by a signed
letter from their parish. If one parent is not Roman Catholic, then
one non-Catholic godparent is allowed.
- Completion of a
Baptismal Preparation Class for both parents and godparents.
- The Stipend for the
Sacrament is $75.00. ($200.00 for a private baptism)
If either or both parents are not practicing the
faith, or not married through the Sacrament of Matrimony, now is the
time to speak with the priest so he may help and guide you.
For the ceremony, a white garment is needed; if you
prefer, you may provide your own baptismal candle. Baptisms start on
time at 2:00 PM, Spanish on the first Sunday of the month, English on
the 3rd.

GODPARENT SELECTION:
Godparents play a very important role in your child's
spiritual life and should serve as role models of the faith, and should not
be the child's own parent or grandparent. The child should be
able to look to their godparent as an example of how the church teaches us to live our Catholic faith. In their role, a godparent represents the larger Church
community. Therefore, is not only an honor, it is a tremendous
responsibility. Here is a link that may answer some of your questions:
